Some mornings the weight of it all — the job, the bills, the people depending on you, the news — feels like more than you can carry. God's word doesn't pretend it's easy. It just promises you won't carry it alone.
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
Philippians 4:13Written from prison, not from a good season. Paul isn't being motivational. He's reporting what he found to be true when he had nothing left — that there was still something to draw on. That's the offer.
For when your body or spirit is giving out"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."
2 Corinthians 12:9The word that gets skipped here is "rest" — Christ's power rests on weakness the way a building rests on a foundation. You being depleted isn't an obstacle to God's strength. It's the condition that makes room for it.
For when you're running on empty and still responsible for others"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Psalm 34:18Not "the LORD will fix it." Not "the LORD will explain it." Close. Present. In the middle of the wreckage with you. Sometimes that's the only thing that's true, and sometimes it's enough.
For when grief has taken the strength out of everything"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:9God doesn't say "don't be afraid because it's not scary." He says don't be afraid because you're not alone. The fear is acknowledged. The directive is still clear. That combination — honest about the cost, still moving — is what courage actually looks like.
For when doing the right thing costs you something real"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
Psalm 73:26The Psalmist isn't pretending failure isn't possible. Flesh fails. Hearts fail. The hope here isn't that you won't collapse — it's that what's underneath you doesn't. God as "portion" means your share, your inheritance, what sustains you. You can start over because you're not starting from nothing.
For when you're beginning again after something broke"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
"Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
"It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure."
"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him."
"The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace."
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength."
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
"Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always."
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power."
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
"Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience."
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day."

The word translated "hope" here also means "wait" — to stay expectant, to keep looking. This isn't passive resignation. It's the choice to remain oriented toward God when you're exhausted. The promise isn't that life gets easier. It's that you won't run out.
